Holy Basil, or Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum), is a revered aromatic herb central to Ayurvedic tradition. Its green or purple leaves carry a slightly peppery, clove-like flavor, and it is valued as an adaptogen used to support calm, immunity, and overall well-being.

  • Botanical name: Ocimum tenuiflorum
  • Type: Heirloom, open-pollinated, non-GMO
  • Leaves: Green or purple, aromatic
  • Flavor: Peppery and clove-like
  • Use: Culinary and herbal tea
  • Sun: Full sun

How to grow

Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost and transplant once warm, or direct sow after frost. Holy basil loves full sun, warmth, and moist, rich soil. It grows much like traditional basil but bushes less; pinch flower spikes to encourage leaf growth.
